Fedrigoni Top
Applications Award 2007
The Chianti area has always been known for its production of
wine. Recognizing a good wine is part of the DNA of this area.
One night I was at dinner with Mario Corti, a friend
who produces wine, and we were tasting the new wine production
together with Simonetta Doni, a well-known designer in the wine
industry. Between one tasting and another slowly the idea of
bottling this wine with the Manometro label designed by Simonetta
Doni was born. Giuliano Mazzuoli
The label recently won the Fedrigoni Top Applications Award
2007 in the competence category. The wine is a quality chianti
that proudly bears the Manometro name. |

Giuliano Mazzuoli participates in the 2006 edition
of the Millle Miglia
Tavarnelle VP (Firenze) - May 15, 2006 -
Giuliano Mazzuoli, creative designer of prestigious
fine Italian watches like Manometro
and other luxury objects of design participated in
the 2006 edition of the historic Mille Miglia rally
race (www.millemiglia.org)
with the Alfa Romeo 750 Competizione car from the
Alfa Romeo Historical Museum.
The car, created in 1955, is one of only two prototypes
ever created for racing competitions within the Sport
category of 1500 cc, a category which was very popular
at the time. Because of the heavy workload of the Alfa
Romeo factories of the time the small production contemplated
for the car was never completed and the sports program
behind it abandoned. It was a real shame because no
other car in the Alfa Romeo line at the time had an
engine with the kind of capacity the 750 Competizione
had.
The power of the engine is nearly 100 horsepower per
litre with a weight of only 690 kg. The gearbox was
one of the first ever created with five gears (all syncronized).
The Mille Miglia rally race which began in Brescia on
Thursday, May 11 went to Rome and then went back up
to Brescia ending on Sunday, May 14 is one of the most
reknown historic automotive rally events in the world
drawing crowds at every leg of the 1000 mile (mille
miglia) journey. The race takes participants through
some of the most spectacular landscapes and historic
towns of Italy. Giuliano Mazzuoli described his experience
in the Mille Miglia as “an emotion that lasts
1000 miles.” The race passed through Mazzuoli’s
home town of Tavarnelle Val di Pesa and this was a particularly
special moment for him perhaps as much as entering the
breath-taking Piazza del Campo in Siena or the magnificent
Piazza della Signoria in Florence.
Mazzuoli’s participation in the historic rally
race with the rare Alfa Romeo car is a prelude to the
launch later this year of a very exclusive watch tied
to one of the brands of FIAT Group (Ferrari, Maserati,
Alfa Romeo, Lancia). The much anticipated limited edition
watch will be called “Contagiri” and it
combines complication, mechanics and Italian design.
Mazzuoli, who transforms objects originally created
for function and not necessarily beauty into what are
considered by some to be works of art, this time used
the rev counter of the historic Alfa Romeo GTA sports
cars he raced during the 1970s as his inspiration for
the watch.
